Hostomy Shared Web Hosting Review 2022

In our last web hosting review, we covered Vapourhost Shared Web Hosting, the underdog host where our blog HiTricks is hosted. Today, I am again back with another underrated web hosting, Hostomy.

It is underrated because you probably won’t hear people recommending Hostomy now and then. I wasn’t so sure about trying them out in the first place. But well, there were two interesting and important things:

  1. Their plans were quite cheap.
  2. Their in-general review, although limited, was good enough. I did not find any significant cons.

So, I decided to give them a try. I went ahead and got myself their shared hosting.

In today’s post, I will discuss Hostomy shared hosting features and plans, their support and uptime stats, and my overall review regarding them. Here’s an overview.

Hostomy Shared Hosting Plans:

For my testing purposes, I went with the Pro Plan, which offers to host unlimited websites.

Hostomy Dashboard and CPanel:

Hostomy Shared Web Hosting Review

This is the Hostomy Hosting Panel. On the left side, you will find the options to manage your domains, hosting accounts and cloud VPS servers. Click on Hosting Accounts to find your purchased Shared hosting.

If you click on Manage, you will get a few handy controls around.

On the top, you will find your package details, your last payment, and your due date. You can also get an overview of your usage of your SSD space as well as the bandwidth consumed. Below it, you will find your server details, which includes your IP address, nameservers, and CPanel username. It also has one-click logins for CPanel and WebMail.

One significant point you should know that you can directly modify your CPanel password from this page in one click. So, just in case someone gets access to your account, he or she might change the CPanel password and get access to the backdoor to your website.

Click on Login to CPanel, and a new tab will open. You will be automatically logged in.

Hostomy provides a fully-functional CPanel with LiteSpeed Webserver, that has File Manager, phpMyAdmin, Domain Manager, Email Manager, SSL/TLS Manager, and hosts a lot of one-click app installations via Softaculous. You can take backups with the Backup Wizard. It supports the home directory, MySQL database, or a full account backup. The domain you use while signing up for Hostomy becomes your primary hosting account by default. If you want to add additional domains (if your plan supports it), then you can do it via the Addon Domains option. If you’re going to configure free SSL via Let’s Encrypt Free SSL, then you can find it under the Security tab. Cloudflare is also included.

I installed WordPress via Softaculous, and it was done within a few minutes.

Here’s the Cpanel Stats for Nerds for the Pro Plan of Hostomy Shared Hosting:

  • Entry Processes: 75.
  • Virtual Memory: 512MB.
  • Physical Memory: 3GB.
  • Disk and MySQL Disk Usage: 30GB.
  • Bandwidth: Unlimited.
  • Domains, Emails, FTP Accounts, and MySQL Databases: Unlimited.

Hostomy Support Review:

Hostomy offers both Live Chat and Ticket-based support. You will find both the options from the Hostomy Dashboard under the Help section. The Live Chat button can be found at the bottom right corner and you can start a chat anytime. Once you register, you can access the ticket-based support. Other than these, you will find some helpful resources in their Hostomy Blog.

I tried out their live support briefly. It was an odd hour, but it still got connected with a support agent in 10 seconds, which is good. I asked some pretty basic stuff, and the responses were pretty satisfactory. What I liked the most is that the support agent did not keep me waiting at all. Everything was answered within a few seconds.

If you get locked out of your account somehow and need to mail them directly, you can send them here: support@hostomy.com.

Last but not least, their publicly listed Contact Us page threw a 404 error when I tried to access it. It’s weird, and I have reported it to them. It should get solved. Nevertheless, I consider this worth mentioning.

Hostomy Server Load Test and Uptime:

Hostomy has received the Great Uptime Award in mid-2019 from HostAdvice. You may want to check out their page to find some user reviews as well.

In my brief testing phase, I didn’t face any downtimes. Here are my UpTimeRobot stats.

Hostomy Shared Web Hosting Review 2020

As you can see, in the last 24 hours and the previous seven days, the site was 100% up. During the last 30 days, however, it faced a slight 1-minute downtime, pushing it to 99.996% uptime, which is safe. The previous downtime was recorded on 31st March at 9.24 pm at the time of writing this post on 17th April 2020.

So, I can say it is reasonably safe.

I did some brief server load testing with Loader.io. First things first, these tests are never accurate representations, and secondly, the website was not properly optimized as well. Hence, the results in actual cases will always be better than this test. Keep that in mind.

Anyways, in my first run, I gradually upscaled from 0 to 50 users in real-time within the 1-minute duration, and Hostomy passed the test with flying colors.

In my second run, I upscaled from 0 to 100 users within 1 minute, and it was able to handle up to 65 users in real-time for 38 seconds before going down.

Finally, I did a traffic spike test, to find out the real-time server load it can handle. I did some trials and errors with my testing and found out that it can support up to 30 real-time users for a minute with ease.

But when I increased that count to 40, the site went down after 16 seconds.

This should give you some insights into the Hostomy Shared Server capabilities. In my opinion, they are fair for small and medium-sized blogs and businesses, landing pages, and stuff. For large-sized blogs, a sudden traffic spike might cause the website to go down, which is common for all shared hosts. If you have a huge traffic load, you should consider opting for a VPS rather than a Shared Server altogether.

Features of Hostomy Shared Hosting:

Here’s a quick look at the Hostomy Shared Hosting, which you should keep in mind while opting for their plans.

  • SSD Servers: Hostomy uses industry-standard fast LiteSpeed SSD servers for storing your data, with CloudLinux.
  • Daily Backups: Hostomy takes regular backups of your website, and stores the last three days’ and previous four weeks’ backups with them. You can request for those backups anytime from their support.
  • 2-Step Verification: You can find the 2-Step Verification under Profile Settings in the Accounts section. You can use Google, Authy, or any other 2 Factor Authentication app.
  • Payment Gateways: Hostomy supports PayPal payments globally. Indian customers also get an option to pay using their local debit or credit cards, or mobile wallets, via CCAvenue.
  • 1-Click Installer: The Hostomy CPanel has 1-click installers for all popular software, including WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, and more.
  • Cloudflare CDN: Cloudflare CDN is integrated within the Control Panel. You can connect to your Cloudflare account from there and manage your website.
  • Upgrading/Downgrading Plans: For upgrading and downgrading your plans, you need to contact the support team. You cannot do it yourself.
