How to Register for Reliance Jio GigaFiber?

Reliance Jio, the youngest telecom service in the country introduced the Jio GigaFiber last month in Mumbai. It will not only provide fast internet connectivity in its own network but is said to provide low tariffs starting as low as Rs 500. The company will be taking registration requests from today.

What is Jio GigaFiber?

Jio GigaFiber is the company’s Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH) broadband solution for India. Spread across the country on a dense network of optical fibers, it comes with an additional a GigaFiber router and a GigaTV set-top box with which users are able to make video calls to other GigaTV devices or any other telecom network in India.

As for its speed, Reliance Jio has been testing the GigaFiber with some selected customers who got its preview offer with speeds of 100 Mbps. But the company assures us that the final product will reach speed up to 1 Gbps. To quote Isha Ambani,” Gone are the days of Mbps, now it will be all about Gbps”.

Reliance Jio GigaFiber Features:

Other than providing a broadband service at the doorstep of users, it will be providing other services such as Ultra HD entertainment on TV, multi-party video conferencing, virtual reality gaming and shopping, and smart home solutions.

Moreover, the GigaTV has a voice command feature on a microphone enabled TV remote to access apps from Jio like JioTV, Jio Cinema, Jio Tv Call. With this, subscribers will be able to call in any TV, laptop or tablet with an internet connection. The Jio GigaFiber also brings a smart home control with access to features like controlling temperature, motion detection, the closing of the door with the help of IOT.

That’s all. You have successfully registered for the Reliance Jio GigaFiber Service.

Next, you need to wait until Jio gets an overall idea of how many customers from your location is interested to take up the GigaFiber service. Once they get a good response from some specific area, they will start rolling out the cables on that location.

You don’t need to do anything. If your area falls under their servable locations, you will get a call from Jio service providers notifying that you can take a new connection.

If you agree, then you will be asked to pay up the security deposit of Rs4500 at the time of installation of the Fiber Optic Modem at your house. Well, this is completely refundable, anytime you want to quit your JioFiber connection, you will get back your money. However, take care that you don’t damage the modem.

Jio will send technicians to your address who will then calculate the overall setup infrastructure required and deploy fiber optic cables in your house. You can have the installation done at any convenient time when you will be available at home.

Remember, all these things and paperwork are later procedures. As of now, Jio is just surveying the need for Fiber Optics throughout different areas of India. It will start working seeing the demand. So, you need to wait for quite a few months (if not years) to actually get the facility.

Reliance Jio has also provided facilities for the current Jio customers to register themselves for the service. They can go to the MyJio app for registrations while the new customers can go to Reliance Jio’s official website Jio.com for registrations. However, as a reminder, registering yourself does not guarantee a GigaFiber connection to your place. The company has already clarified that it will be prioritizing the localities and cities from where it gets the maximum registrations. The registrations are merely a strategy to gain noticeability and deploy the service in the areas with maximum customers.

The service may take some time to reach smaller towns and Tier III regions like large villages because of a small number of registrations. Earlier the company said it will bring Jio GigaFiber to 1,100 cities and towns of which they will likely prioritize big towns and cities over Tier I and Tier II markets.

Reliance Jio GigaFiber Plans:

Giving free service for an amount of time is not a new strategy for Reliance Jio. In the testing phase, the company offered free service to the customers for a payment of Rs 4,500 as a one-time security deposit.

The company will likely to include regular tariffs but at a very low and affordable rate aimed at garnering customers. The tech experts have predicted that the company will attempt to break the market with tariffs provided at 50% lower than prevailing rates. The market has already started feeling this effect with other service providers slashing their prices.

Well, as per sources from the inside, in the initial preview offer period, you will be able to enjoy up to 1TB of High-Speed Internet per month. That’s a whopping 1000+ GB of Data to consume. They will be offered at a minimum rate of 100Mbps, however, the maximum speeds can rise up to 1Gbps.

Let’s see how it goes when it actually launches. We will update you with further news.

Last Words:

Indian users have been struggling for years with slow broadband speeds offered at high rates. Reliance Jio aims to change that as they did with 4G network in India. They are also keeping a future vision offering just more than a simple broadband connection.

I hope the Fiber connection get good speeds since its a wired network and should not suffer the same fate as the Wireless networks of Jio. They have gone pathetic up to such extent that even simple music streaming needs buffering!

Anyways, we will see how it evolves when this becomes mainstream. I am seriously waiting for the day when Jio (or just any other operator) connects entire India, rural and urban areas together online.
