Honor View 10: Full Phone Specifications and Honest Opinions

2018 is here and the Chinese Brand Honor, which is a part of Huawei, is all set up for the sale of their upcoming smartphone Honor View 10. The USP of this device, according to them, is Artificial Intelligence. The mobile is powered by a Kirin 970 processor with a Neural Network Processing Unit (NPU) that is Honor’s own technology against Artificial Intelligence. They say it is going to deep learn the user behavior and grow better day by day. It will also be used to produce better camera outputs, specially Selfies in Portrait Mode with just a Single Camera. I will come to that later on.

Honor V 10 or Honor View 10 is the successor to Honor V9 that came in February 2017 with Kirin 960 Processor and 6GB RAM. Honor View 10 is going to pack the same 6 Gigs of RAM in this device too. The device will go on sale from 8th January 2018 at Amazon India Exclusively. You can Register for the Sale from here.

One Good Surprise about the phone is its pricing. It is directly competing with the OnePlus 5T that got released in last November. While OnePlus 5T price starts from Rs32999, Honor V 10 has already got the mass attention by its strategical pricing of Rs29999. That’s 3k lesser already for a Flagship of 2018.

What’s more?
You can grab the device at a further discount of Rs1500 if you have an ICICI Bank Credit or Debit Card, reducing the total cost at Rs28499. That’s unbeatable. This early bird offer is valid from 8th to 10th January only.

There is also a 90GB Data offer bundled with Airtel. It gives you 15GB 3G/4G data per recharge for 6 recharges of Rs349 (varies from circle to circle). Read the complete details of the Airtel offer from Here.

No cost EMI options are also available starting from Rs2500 per month.

Well, the device sounds lucrative for sure at this price point. Is it a good buy? Let’s find out what’s inside.

Honor View 10 (V10) Features:

The Honor View comes with a Full Aluminium Body, and the slimness of the device will attract you at the first look itself. On the front, there is a 5.9-inch Display with 18:9 aspect ratio. Even with that large display, they were able to place a Fingerprint Sensor Button at the front just below the display. And it is not a button that you can press, you just need to touch it and it will unlock your device. The speaker grill is on the bottom.

Talking about features, this phone has got one power that none of the other devices got: Dual 4G VoLTE Support. Yup, you heard that right.

Ever found your Jio Sim going into Emergency Mode whenever you turned on 4G via your secondary sim? That’s because your phone cannot use 4G via two sim slots simultaneously. But not anymore. Honor V10 solves that small but crucial problem. You can slide in two 4G sim cards and turn on 4G in any of them, without losing network connectivity.

Speaking of sim slots, it is hybrid. You can utilize the secondary sim slot to make room for an External SD Card up to 256GB. But I doubt whether you will be needing it. Because it already has an Internal Storage of 128GB.

Two other good things are available with this device, one which we need but most of the manufacturers don’t provide us, and another we need but manufacturers are taking it away from us. Yes, you are right, the later one is obviously a 3.5mm Headphone Jack. Yes, even in 2018, the first major flagship comes with this Headphone Jack, while many other manufacturers have already ditched it. Yes, it is a necessity, not because we don’t want to upgrade, but, because of the fact that our existing headphones can be utilized if a 3.5mm headphone jack is present.

The other important thing that is available is an IR Blaster. Though most of us don’t need it much, still it becomes helpful at times. Using it you can control your AC, TV, DVD Player, Projector and other electrical appliances that need a remote control. The IR Blaster is compatible with all major Indian brands, and they also provide an inbuilt app to control them.

Under the hood, this device is powered by Huawei’s very own Kirin 970 processor, produced by their subsidiary HiSilicon. All the Huawei and Honor devices are powered by Kirin. 970 is their latest flagship processor, which has got NPU (Neural Network Processing Unit), that will deep learn your mobile usage pattern, they say so. So, it is an AI-powered device.

The processor is an Octa-Core one, with 4×2.4 GHz Cortex-A73 & 4×1.8 GHz Cortex-A53. The GPU is Mali-G72 MP12. This is all by latest flagship standards and won’t be of much worry to you. Above that, it gives you a fair 6GB of RAM to use. So, you are not likely to face any kinds of lagginess with this device, no matter how much stuff you throw at it.

Coming to the camera, it has a dual rear camera of 16MP f/1.8 RGB and 20MP Monochrome. The front camera is 13MP f/2.0. It also supports Face Unlocking system as it uses a VSCEL projector to capture 300,000 points in a 3D map of the user’s face.

One good thing about the front camera is that it can take Selfie Portraits using their intelligent AI technology. But one downside about the overall camera setup is that it lacks any kind of stabilization (neither OIS or EIS), so you will end up in a shaky video. 🙁

Well, that’s all the major hardware part.

Coming to the software, it runs on Android Oreo 8.0 out of the box, but not that you can feel it fully. Because their phones are skinned with EMUI 8 on top of that. So, if you are a stock fan, this isn’t the device you should look for.

The AI helps a lot in Face Unlock, Translation and giving Smart Tips.

The phone also supports Fast Charging with their own fast charger that will get you up to 60% juice with just 30 minutes of charging. And the charging cable is USB Type C. The other usual features like Wifi and Bluetooth etc are all available, the sensors are available too, check them out in the full specifications below.

Honor View 10 (V10) Honest Opinions:

8.4 Total Score
Almost Flagship Minus One

This device provides everything that one expects from a Flagship, with latest processor, 6GB Ram, 128GB Internal Memory and Android Oreo out of the box. It is an AI-powered device which helps in Face Unlock, Selfie Portraits etc. Yet, has one big disadvantage which will affect in the long run, that is the lack of Image Stabilization. It has a 3.5mm Headphone Jack and an IR Blaster which many of other devices miss out. Overall, it is a total value for money at 29999, the only guys I will ask not to buy this device is those who take regular videos with their phone. Better go for a device having video stabilizations.

Value for Money
  • At 29999 Launch Price its 100% Value for Money Device
  • Dual 4G VoLTE Support
  • AI faced Selfie Portrait Support
  • Face Unlock Support
  • IR Blaster Support
  • No video stabilization, neither OIS or EIS

Honor View 10 (V10) Alternatives:

If you are not interested in Honor V10, and looking for Alternatives, the only other Flagship Quality Alternative I can suggest you is the OnePlus 5T. It has got the same 18:9 Display, a powerful Snapdragon 835 Processor with 6 or 8 Gigs of RAM, and is the performance benchmark for all Android Devices. 😉

The other alternative is Honor 8 Pro. The only place where it shines is that it is cheaper at 26k and its display is better (2k display) compared to Honor View 10’s Full HD+ Display. The battery is a bit higher too. But, the processor is of last year Kirin 960, keep that in mind.
