India is going crazy on OTT platforms. With the rapid access to the internet with everyone, Indians are consuming more online content than ever. We are streaming videos online on our mobiles, tablets, and laptops.
With such a craze and popularity over watching ad-free content at our convenience, there are successful video streaming networks like Disney+ Hotstar, Amazon Prime, Netflix, Voot, Zee5, AltBalaji, TVF Play, Hoichoi and more. The latest entrant to this list is Discovery+.
While the other OTT providers are focused on creating scripted content, such as drama, crime, thrillers, and more, Discovery has decided to explore the entire range of unscripted shows, documentaries, case studies, and infotainment features, to entertain and educate the viewers at the same time.
Discovery+ has hosted a wide range of infotainment shows on its platform from their sister channels:
- Discovery Science
- Discovery Turbo
- Animal Planet
And there are thousands of shows in their catalog with 40 different genres. All old and new shows are added already. Discovery claims there are over 300,000 hours of content on their platform.
While most of the shows are free, there are some premium shows which are available on a monthly or yearly subscription.
The content will be available in 8 languages: English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi, Kannada, and Malayalam.
Discovery+ Subscription Charges:
Discovery+ Premium has two types of subscription:
- Monthly Subscription: Rs99 per month.
- Yearly Subscription: Rs299 per month.
The yearly subscription is a lucrative deal to avail, and it doesn’t burn a hole in your pocket.

With the online content directly competing with the television sector, it is expected to overtake the traditional TV watching, and sooner or later, every TV user will switch to online streaming platforms. Each provider will have its streaming network. The faster they are launched, the better.
While Discovery+ is inevitably late to join the party, I am glad that they did it. They should now focus on creating better content so that the customers retain their subscription.
Thank you for reading. I will be back soon with another exciting update. Till then, stay tuned!
