How to Clean MacBook to Boost Its Performance?

For Apple lovers, a MacBook is one of their most treasured possessions. And after a few years of working with this perfect machine, you find it has now started to lag, and for a Mac user, there could be nothing be more unbearable.

But as time takes its toll, your MacBook is now showing the signs of aging. There is a significant fall in its processing power compared to when you first brought it into your home. You’ll also find yourself struggling in accomplishing the simplest of tasks on your once lightning-fast computing device.

However, if you do a little research, you’ll find that these problems are elementary to deal with. And the good news is that you don’t have to dig any deeper to find answers to your issues with your Mac.

Here you’ll find the most effective ways to speed up your Mac by cleaning it from inside out. Let’s get started.

Clean the Trash:

When you delete a file, it does not wholly remove itself from your device. First, it transfers to the trash bin. Unless you remove it from your Trash, it keeps occupying space on your computer’s hard drive. Consequently, your Mac will perform slower.

To fix this issue, go to your Trash folder and make sure you remove all the files permanently from your bin.

Deep Clean Your Mac:

When you face issues like fan noise, overheating, unannounced shutdowns, and lagging performance on your Mac, it is time for deep cleaning. When you are using the same device for several years, the ever-present dust around begins to settle inside your machine. It further hinders the performance of your Mac and causes all the troubles mentioned above.

To make your device dust-free, you’ll have to open your device and clean the dust from the inside. To find out how to clean macbook internals effectively, follow the instructions written below:

  1. Switch off your Mac and unplug the power supply.
  2. Flip your Mac over and place it on a hard and leveled surface.
  3. With a screwdriver, carefully remove all the screws from its back.
  4. Slowly lift the back and put it aside to expose the internal hardware of your device.
  5. Now you can see all the internal hardware clearly, and the dust settled on them. Start by blowing compressed air around the power supply, fans, and other necessary hardware. Make sure you don’t touch the hardware while blowing the dust aside.
  6. After your device is entirely dust-free, reinstall the back cover.

After attempting this deep clean, you will find that your Mac is performing at its optimal levels.

Update your OS Version :

If you are working on an older version of macOS, then it is natural that your Mac lags in performance. Apple is known for its constant developments, not only in the hardware section but also in software. These highly trained software engineers are constantly finding new ways to enhance the performance of your device. And with an OS update, these software developers try to make sure that you are getting the best out of your device.

Therefore, if you are working on an older version of OS, you’ll find your Mac lagging. To update your device, you have to go to your system preferences and check for updates. If your OS is out of date, you’ll find a newer version to download and install. You can also schedule the download and install it later, depending on your convenience.

Last Words:

That’s all about how you can boost your MacBook performance, especially when it ages over time. Even if your MacBook is old, it still has the potential to work perfectly. The fixes mentioned above will help you achieve this task. Make sure you apply each one of them to get the best results.

As a matter of fact, I switched to MacBook Air in September 2017, and at the time of writing this post in April 2021, my machine is already over 3.5 years old. And still, it runs damn smooth, as good as new. Yes, the newer MacBooks have become faster, but my machine, from my time, was able to hold on to its performances to the date. I regularly enjoy using my MacBook.
